Former Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan has suggested that if Antonio Conte was the Belgian national team coach, they would have won trophies, according to a report in the Belgian media today.

Speaking to Voetbal Primeur in Belgium, the midfielder explained that there was no difference in the national team between the coaching of Marc Wilmots and his replacement, Roberto Martinez.

Despite having an extremely talented squad, The Red Devils still failed to win a major tournament.

“The 2016 team was not ready yet. Then they thought that it depended on the national team coach. If you compare the path with Wilmots and the path with Martinez, you notice that nothing has changed in terms of results.”

Radja Nainggolan then went on to suggest that if former Inter boss Antonio Conte had been in charge of the team in recent years, they would have won a major tournament.

“If Antonio Conte had been there, Belgium would have won trophies.”

It is clear that the short time that the Belgian midfielder and Antonio Conte spent together left a lasting impression on Radja Nainggolan.

He left Inter this summer to permanently join Antwerp in the Belgian first division, despite looking poised to return to Cagliari.
