Ahead of a reunion with Inter in Serie A tomorrow, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti was unlucky and was treated in a poor manner by his former club, according to Italian journalist Massimo Marianella.

Spalletti led the Nerazzurri from 2017 and returned them to the Champions League, before he was dismissed and replaced by Antonio Conte in May 2019. Conte went on to take Inter to the Europa League Final and won the Scudetto last season before quitting in the summer.

Appearing on Italian television channel Sky Sport 24 earlier today, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, Marianella offered his thoughts on Spalletti’s time at Inter and sympathised with the former Roma coach, who has taken Napoli to top spot in the league.

“For his characteristics as a coach and as a man, in temperament, Spalletti was not treated very well by Inter for what he did,” Marianella argued.

“He will be proud of what he is doing now, and he is ahead of Inter,” he added.

Napoli are currently seven points clear of Inter in the Serie A table and will hope to extend their unbeaten start to the league season when they face Simone Inzaghi’s side at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
