Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio is very pleased with how his side performed in yesterday evening’s 3-2 win over Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Speaking in a press conference as reported by L’Interista, the executive gave his thoughts on an important win in which the Nerazzurri did not have it all their own way but managed to reduce the gap at the top of Serie A top four points.

Inter went behind early to a well-taken Piotr Zielinski goal, before they overturned the match with three goals, no more than they deserved for a very strong performance in which they looked in control.

As the match drew into its final stages, Dries Mertens pulled one back for the Partenopei and things became more nervy for the Nerazzurri who had to rely on some heroic last-ditch defending and goalkeeping to preserve their advantage.

However, in the end Simone Inzaghi’s men took away a significant win that sees them take a big step into the Scudetto race.

“It couldn’t have gone better,” Ausilio said of the match. “There was a bit of suffering at the end, but that’s part of Inter’s DNA.”

He went on that “It’s fine to suffer a bit along the way if it leads to success, because all great successes pass through suffering, we have a strong character and certain convictions because of it.”
