Midfielder Nicolo Barella is not likely to start Inter’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday due to fatigue, and Arturo Vidal is set to start in his place.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Chilean is the likeliest candidate to play from the start in the vital Champions League clash.

Barella came off the pitch during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s 3-2 win over Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza yesterday evening due to feeling tired.

The 24-year-old had also been substituted off in the second half of the Milan derby before the international break, and during both of the Italian national team’s World Cup qualifiers, with minor muscular problems meaning that he was unable to continue.

Coach Simone Inzaghi is set to give the midfielder a rest when Shakhtar travel to Milan to face Inter in the Champions League this week, with Vidal the favourite to take his place in the lineup.

Meanwhile, Federico Dimarco is also in contention to play from the start against Shakhtar.
