Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi believes that Sunday’s win over Napoli in Serie A can provide inspiration and confidence to his team as they look to continue in a positive manner for the rest of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of tomorrow’s massive Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, the coach spoke about the confidence in his team at the moment.

Inter went into their head-to-head clash with the Partenopei knowing that they could pull within four points not only of their opponents but also of city rivals AC Milan with a win, as the Rossoneri had lost their match with Fiorentina the day before.

The Nerazzurri produced a strong performance and got the three points that they had hoped for, the first time they had managed to beat a direct Scudetto rival if not the first time they had performed at such a high level in a match of that stature.

Now the team move onto their clash with Shakhtar, which could see them through to the round of sixteen in the Champions League.

“We feel that it’s all in our hands,” Inzaghi stated. “We will need to recover energy because Sunday was a costly match.”

“Two or three players asked me to come off: Correa, Barella, and Bastoni as well who took a heavy blow to the shoulder,” he continued.

“Dzeko was not at his best and between today and tomorrow I will have to try to recover as many players as possible,” the coach explained, “especially considering that De Vrij, Sanchez and Satriano will not be available”

Of the win over Napoli he stated that “It gives great self-belief to the team. In the big matches we always had excellent performances but we lacked a win.”

“We did it against the record-breaking Napoli and against the best defense in Europe,” Inzaghi stated, “it gives us a lot of fuel going forward.”
