Inter defender Matteo Darmian feels that his good form this season is an extension of the confidence that the confidence his club has shown in him since his arrival.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia ahead of tomorrow’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, the 31-year-old reflected on the significance of the club’s trust in him and also looked ahead of tomorrow’s match.

Darmian has been one of the Nerazzurri’s standout players so far this season, showing his value on both sides of the ball in the absence of Achraf Hakimi who was sold in the summer.

The Italian joined from Parma in the summer of 2020, and he has cemented his place in the team even further this campaign after having been an important contributor to last season’s Scudetto triumph.

For Darmian, this is only paying back the team for the faith that they have placed in his abilities since his arrival.

Of tomorrow’s match he stated that “A difficult match awaits us, against an opponent with a lot of quality, who always tries to keep the ball and build up from the back.”

“We must keep our concentration as we did against Napoli,” he went on, “to make sure that we don’t leave gaps in behind.”

Of his recent form, Darmian stated that “Surely after a few years of experience I can manage certain situations well, but I have always felt trusted here and this has allowed me to be at my best. When I am called upon I always try to give my contribution.”

“We know how important this match is,” he went on, “we must take the pitch with the right attitude and bring home three vital points for the progression from the group stage.”
