Italian journalist Antonio Corbo believes that Inter showed their superiority in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Napoli in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, Corbo gave his assessment of the dynamics of the weekend’s clash at the San Siro, and suggested that the Partenopei were unable to get a foothold for long periods in a match that the Nerazzurri controlled.

Both teams will have fully understood the importance of Sunday’s match going in, and both looked to impose their game at a high tempo to try and negate the quality that was obviously present in their opposition.

In the end, it was the Nerazzurri who edged the five-goal thriller, a clash with potential Scudetto implications, and Corbo believes that this was a deserved result on the basis of their dominant performance.

He suggested that for the bulk of the match, Inter were the team whose plan for the match was being implemented and that there was little their opponents appeared able to do about it.

“Napoli might have deserved a draw in the final analysis,” he said, “and this is worth pointing out. At the same time, however, they seemed vulnerable.”

“From the penalty up until the third goal they were at the mercy of Inter and it was because they were under the control of the opposition tactics,” he went on.

“Nobody can deny that yesterday there was no tactical response from Napoli until the late substitutions of Lozano and Insigne,” Corbo explained.

He gave the view that “Their team was off the pace to Inter and suffered heavily on the flanks without this being remedied.”

“This is an aspect to be analyzed,” he concluded. “Against teams with three defenders you can win if you set the pace. If the opponent dictate the pace, then you are at their mercy.”
