Former Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has suggested that Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana will do very well when he joins a new club, according to a report in the Dutch broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on RTL 7 in The Netherlands, via FCInternews, Wesley Sneijder said that the player is a fantastic goalkeeper who will be a success wherever he goes next.

“Of course, he is a fantastic goalkeeper who will do well elsewhere too.”

Andre Onana has been banned from playing for the last nine months after a  doping violation but he made his return for Ajax in the Champions League against Besiktas this week.

Wesley Sneijder feels the club should not have let him start that game given he has made it clear that he intends to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season.

“You just have to look at what is best for the team, for the club, for the fans and for everything around. In this case you would not choose Onana. At least, I would never have done it.

“Of course he was important for Ajax, but now he is also leaving Ajax behind. This was a great opportunity for Ajax to say ‘We won’t let ourselves be treated like this. We need to think about the future in the long term, not only for now.”

It appears almost certain that the Cameroonian international goalkeeper will be replacing Samir Handanovic as Inter’s number one goalkeeper for the 2022/23 Serie A campaign.
