Inter have managed to succeed despite the massive loss of Romelu Lukaku during the summer, and this has a lot to do with the contributions of Edin Dzeko in attack.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who highlight the Bosnian’s impact as he has helped them keep up pace in Serie A and also made the telling contribution to secure progression to the Champions League knockout stages.

Dzeko has now scored ten goals in all competitions following his match-winning brace against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, enough to make him the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in the league in addition to having earned them a spot in the Champions League round of sixteen.

Lukaku, however, had scored even more at this stage last campaign, having been on eleven goals in Serie A alone as well as finding the back of the net four times in the Champions League.

The Belgian’s goals were a significant part of the Nerazzurri’s first Scudetto triumph in eleven years, but at the same time, were not enough to keep them from finishing bottom of their Champions League group.

By contrast, Dzeko has managed to help the Nerazzurri to their first participation in the knockout rounds of Europe’s top competition while also keeping them afloat in the Italian top flight.
