Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni is glad to have helped his club to the third successive win in a week in this evening’s Serie A win over Venezia.

Speaking to InterTV following the match, the 22-year-old emphasized that the result and performance away in Venice was further confirmation of the Nerazzurri’s credentials in all the competitions that they are in.

The most important consideration in this evening’s match was taking three points back to Milan, and the Nerazzurri accomplished this, but the result came against the backdrop of an overall strong week for the club.

Inter beat league leaders Napoli in a massive result in their first match back from the international break, before sealing qualification for the knockout rounds of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk during the weekend.

The victory over newly-promoted Venezia made sure that this encouraging win did not end on a sour note, and showed that the Nerazzurri can win the games that they must and keep the momentum going.

“We knew it was a fundamentally important week that could point the direction for the season,” Bastoni said. “We started very well, beating Napoli and reducing the gap at the top of the table, I think it was a victory that certainly helps us in the table but also serves as a morale boost.”

He went on that “We then secured qualification for the Champions League round of sixteen which was our goal, and now we confirmed our strength here in Venice.”

“It was not easy,” he said of this evening’s opponents, “they had beaten Fiorentina here at home, a very difficult ground.”

“They have many fast players who can attack the space in behind but we prepared well for them and we were good at negating their strengths, and we brought the points home,” he added.

Of playing a new role as the central defender in a back three, Bastoni stated that “I felt comfortable, I have done it on other occasions too. We are a good group, players are available to provide cover in any role and we hope to continue like this.”

Looking to this week’s match against Spezia, the defender said that “It’s another fundamentally important game to keep being consistent in the league. We cannot afford to drop points on the road so we will go into it with the same determination to win as always.”

And he closed with a message to the fans, stating “Thank you for the support you give us every day. We always feel you with us, it was very important for us to welcome you back to the stadium. Sempre Forza Inter.”
