Inter got the job done yesterday evening against Venezia in Serie A even though they were not at their fluid best for much of the match.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the Nerazzurri showed that they can win matches with a functional and controlled style even when not playing their most attractive football.

During the first half of yesterday’s clash, Inter controlled more of possession and restricted the opposition to just one shot, while they were good value for their 1-0 lead as they had managed to create chances throughout.

The pace of the match was not as high as in some recent performances from Simone Inzaghi’s men, and in the second half they had to hold onto their slender advantage as the Venetians began to establish themselves more in midfield and probe for an equalizer.

However, in the end the Nerazzurri sealed off the win with a late penalty after a performance which showed that they can be the superior team even when they are a ways off of their most beautiful football.
