Former Lazio and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio believes that Hakan Calhanoglu had become much more complete as a midfielder over the season with Inter.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former striker gave his thoughts on the Turk’s recent performances and suggested that he is now helping out in all phases of play effectively.

Calhanoglu did not endure too bad of a start to life at Inter, but after an impressive debut against Genoa he came in for some criticism due to the perception that his performances were not living up to expectations.

In recent matches the Turk’s impact has been very important, helping the Nerazzurri to three consecutive wins in all competitions including a vital opener against Venezia over the weekend.

Di Canio is impressed by what he’s seen from the former AC Milan midfielder, and feels that the Nerazzurri are performing at a very high level as a team.

“Calhanoglu in the last few games tackles and recovers the ball,” he stated. “Things he didn’t used to do.”

“And yesterday he scored a ball by getting the ball in a bit of space, hitting it from long range, marvellous goal,” he added.

“Inzaghi is taking advantage of the certainty of certain players inherited from Conte’s team,” he added. “Inzaghi is like an older brother, but the players give him respect.”

“They play very well,” Di Canio concluded. “Dimarco is like an additional midfielder starting out in the defensive line.”
