Hakan Calhanoglu Repaying Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi’s Faith With Recent Form, Italian Media Argue
Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been in excellent form for the Nerazzurri, and his performances have rewarded the trust put in him by coach Simone Inzaghi.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that the coach has been a consistent advocate for the 27-year-old in the squad and that his vision for the player is now coming to fruition.
Calhanoglu has now scored in his past three matches for the Nerazzurri, finding the back of the net from the penalty spot against league leaders AC Milan and Napoli before scoring a decisive opener against Venezia from long range.
The Turk could be on track to equal his best-ever goalscoring season in Serie A, nine for the Rossoneri during the 2019-20 campaign.
The midfielder had also been on target eleven times for Hamburg in the 2013-14 season of the Bundesliga, but he was playing a much more advanced role in that team.
By contrast, the 27-year-old’s displays in recent matches have looked very complete in the centre of the pitch, covering a lot of ground and involving himself in virtually everything positive that his team does.
This version of Calhanoglu had not always been apparent in a Nerazzurri, with the Turk impressing in his debut against Genoa but then coming in for some criticism for some of his subsequent displays.
However, Inzaghi has always defended the player to the media, and continued to regularly select him as he looks to build his team around the player signed from city rivals Milan over the summer.
Now, the Turk is beginning to give a clearer impression of why Inzaghi has been so determined to build the team around him, and the coach will be pleased to see his faith in the player pay off.
