Pirelli CEO Tronchetti Provera believes that Inter are in a good position now in spite of financial problems, and he credits head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking at the Pirelli Calender event, as reported by FCInterNews, Provera gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s season as the CEO for the company that had been the club’s shirt sponsor for 26 years prior to this season.

Inter’s partnership with Pirelli made for one of the most iconic shirt sponsorships in European football, with the tyre manufacturer’s logo having adorned the club’s matchday kits through almost three decades.

Many great players wore the shirt during that period, and a number of trophies were added to the club’s cabinet, so the logo will have a strong association for many fans.

Provera still follows the Nerazzurri keenly, and is happy to see the form that they are currently in.

He gave his impression of the team, stating that “It was really difficult for Inter to be as competitive as they are today and to play so well.”

“Inzaghi deserves a big round of applause,” he added, “he has done an extraordinary job. Same to all of the players.”

“Inzaghi has made good football the basis for his work at Inter he improves the the players tactically and adds something that makes them more competitive,” he added.

Provera also weighed in on the proposed demolition of the San Siro to make way for a new stadium in Milan, admitting that “If they demolish the San Siro, it will feel like a part of me has been demolished as well.”
