Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that Inter’s season has gone better than was widely expected of them.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marani gave the view that the Nerazzurri have over-delivered so far this campaign, and also singled out Ivan Perisic and in particular Marcelo Brozovic for praise.

The Nerazzurri headed into the season as defending champions in Serie A, but they had also changed coaches during the summer and lost key players in the form of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.

The expectations were somewhat hard to gauge, but few predicted that Inter would be in for a straightforward Scudetto defense campaign.

Early results were somewhat erratic despite encouraging performances, but of late the Nerazzurri have been in top form, and Marani is of the view that this is more than had been expected of them before a ball was kicked.

On some of the important players at Inter, he stated that “Brozovic and Perisic are the most important. Perisic is doing very well, but Brozovic is the man who makes Inter run, as he has done for several seasons.”

He went on of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, stating that “In Inzaghi I see a wonderful ability to work with the mezzali, just look at how well Barella and Calhanoglu are doing. And let’s keep in mind that Eriksen is out.”

“Inter look very organized to me,” the journalist added.

On the Scudetto race he said that “Right now I don’t think there is a clear favourite, it will be a very long season. Last year I felt that Inter prevailed in the end even though Juve still had the best squad, this year is different.”

On the Nerazzurri’s title tilt, Marani said that “We are seeing a team doing everything to win. We can say that after a summer that emphasized financial savings, they are also exceeding expectations.”
