Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with what he saw from his players in this evening’s 2-0 win over Spezia at the San Siro.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the 45-year-old singled out Hakan Calhanoglu’s performance for praise in the Serie A clash, and also stated that he was happy with what he saw from Denzel Dumfries.

Calhanoglu has been in good form over the past few matches with the Nerazzurri, and he once again showed it with a composed display to help his team keep a tight grip over the match in the centre of the pitch.

The Turk had not always lived up to expectations in his first few matches apart from his eye-catching debut against Genoa, but once again against Spezia he showed the kind of form that the club will have hoped for when they signed him in the summer.

Meanwhile, fellow summer signing Dumfries came in for the injured Matteo Darmian, and he also gave a good account of himself as he helped the team to a controlled win.

Inzaghi characterized the clash as “An important match, which needed to be approached in the right way, and the guys were sensational in this sense. I am very, very satisfied.”

“I’m satisfied with it,” he said of the clean sheet in the match, Inter’s second in a row in the league.

“The guys played a very careful game,” he went on, “we never lost our shape against an opponent who were looking to counterattack against us.”

“Tonight we had a bit of an injury crisis in defense, but they were very good, compact,” he added. “Now we have to go forward.”

“We’re not anywhere close to done yet,” the coach went on. “A challenging match awaits us on Saturday.”

Of Calhanoglu’s form, he stated that “He has put all his effort into it, because he is a player with quality and works hard.”

“He is growing game upon game,” he went on. “I am satisfied with him as I am with everyone else. With this unity and this desire, we can still improve.”

Of the team’s passing moves, Inzaghi said that “We were good. The first goal came after fifteen passes.”

“In Venice, we completed 22 or 23 passes before the first goal,” he added. “Good finishing, good work by D’Ambrosio to arrive between the lines, good work Lautaro and deserved goal for Gaglia who works hard every day.”

Asked whether he was satisfied with what he saw from Darmian, the coach stated “A lot. But I’ve always alternated with Darmian.”

“We are satisfied,” he continued, “he always plays very well. There was the unfortunate episode with the penalty against Juve, which was unfortunate.”

He explained that “Darmian was in amazing form and he was out, but Denzel can give us a lot. He is a positive guy, he didn’t put his head down after the penalty against Juve.”

On the possibility of returns from injury for Saturday’s match against Roma, Inzaghi stated that “We’ll see in the next few days.”

“We have some injury issues,” he went on, “the hope is that we’ll recover some players and have more options. But I’m calm, we can also adapt a midfielder to defense or go four at the back.”

“We have to continue like this,” the coach stated. “We’re in the race but so are the teams ahead of us. And Atalanta must be considered as well.”
