Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini scored the vital opening goal in the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Spezia yesterday evening, his first of the season and an important striker in the context of his team’s Scudetto ambitions.

As football statistics account Opta highlighted in a tweet, this was not only his fifteenth career goal in Serie A but also his eighth against a side from the Liguria region of Italy, namely Genoa, Sampdoria, and now Spezia, an interesting coincidence colouring his career so far.

Opta’s tweet reads, “8 – Roberto Gagliardini has scored eight of his 15 Serie A goals against Ligurian sides.”
