Former Inter midfielder Leonardo Occhipinti believes that Inter are the team with the most quality to go on and win the Scudetto race.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TuttoMercatoWeb, the former midfielder gave the view that the Nerazzurri have found good form and a footballing identity and that this leaves them best-placed to win the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri were not the fastest-starting team in the Italian top flight this season, with city rivals AC Milan and Napoli both pulling to seven points ahead of them in the table with their nearly flawless starts to the campaign.

However, Inter’s form has improved and they have reduced the deficit to two points from the Partenopei and to just one point from the Rossoneri.

Occhipinti believes that from this position, it is Simone Inzaghi’s team who have what it takes to go all the way and defend last season’s Scudetto crown.

“As expected the Scudetto race has opened back up,” he stated, “and right now Inter are the best-constructed team with the most complete squad.”

He went on that “It took time at the beginning but now their style of play appears to have been consolidated, the players know what they have to do and the positional scheme appears less complicated than it had been under Conte.”

“Now the players have more freedom of mind,” Occhipinti continued, “just look at Perisic, and this means that they give more: last year it was more as if they were used by Conte.”

Looking to tomorrow’s clash with Roma, the former midfielder stated that “On paper, Inter should go there and take three points away but Mourinho will prepare for them in a particular way, he will be very keen to make a good impression”
