Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli believes that current Nerazzurri coach is beginning to establish himself at the club.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomercatoweb.it, the former striker expressed his confidence in the manager’s direction of the club based on what he’s seen in recent weeks.

Inzaghi had already had a strong reputation when he arrived at Inter during the summer, with the 45-year-old having enjoyed more than five seasons of growth and silverware with Lazio.

However, the task at the Nerazzurri is different that that of managing the Biancocelesti, and there were questions as to whether he could fill the shoes of departed coach Antonio Conte.

In his first few months at the club, however, Inzaghi has shown that he can keep them in the Scudetto race as well as progressed to the Champions League knockout rounds for the first time in a decade.

Altobelli gave the view that “When Inzaghi arrived everyone was thinking of a decline at Inter, given the work that Antonio Conte had done in the last two years and the Scudetto win.”

“But I immediately thought that Inzaghi had the right kind of profile for this Inter,” he continued, “in terms of his style of play the squad of players he has at his disposal. For me this is not a surprise but rather he’s proving himself.”

“Inter have lost two massive players in Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi,” he went on, “but the directors have replaced them in the best possible way.”

He stated that “Marotta and the rest are doing excellent work, in a moment that is still delicate for the club. Inter has kept the spine of the team in defense and midfield, Inzaghi always has three great defenders ahead of Samir Handanovic and two irreplaceable top players Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella in midfield.”

“Of the new arrivals I would like to mention Federico Dimarco in particular,” he added, “it has been clear, he is a player who belongs at Inter.”

“He is also a very valuable player tactically because he can play both at wing-back and in the back three,” he added.

“Edin Dzeko is making it so the club don’t miss Lukaku,” he went on, “and in recent weeks Hakan Calhanoglu has also been becoming a very important piece for Inzaghi.”

He also named “The likes of Darmian, Dumfries, and Perisic are making the contributions needed in the wide areas. They are reliable players who can be counted on.”

“However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Marotta completed the team with some other reinforcements in January,” Altobelli added. “Inter can compete on all fronts and win the Scudetto again, as well as having a good run in the Champions League.”
