AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni expects that the plans to built a new stadium in Milan with Inter will be finalized by the end of the year.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster GR Parlamento, the Rossoneri executive gave updates on the timeline for the new stadium, including that it should be ready by 2026.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been pressing forward on their plan to build a new stadium in Milan to take the place of the San Siro.

The clubs feel that the new stadium will be necessary to modernize their infrastructure as well as increase their revenues so that they can be competitive with other top clubs in Europe, something Scaroni emphasized.

The project has not been without difficulties, but for both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, it is of absolutely vital significance and something that they expect to move forward on in a timely manner.

“The stadium in Milan for Milan and Inter is fundamental on a sporting level,” Scaroni stated. “Looking at the top of Europe, the clubs in Serie A will be competitive again only when the clubs equip themselves with high-level sports facilities.”

“Sala asked us to make great sacrifices in order to start as soon as possible,” he went on, “today we are moving forward in agreement and we want to proceed quickly.”

He explained that “We reached an agreement that dictates the construction of the new stadium next to the Meazza and restricts the real estate to 0.35 (volumetric levels) that is requested of us by the Municipality of Milan as a maximum amount that we can build to.”

“We have made an effort for green spaces,” he added, “there will be 50,000 square meters of park and therefore as much green space as five football pitches, where today there is a square.”

He explained that “We plan to announce the final project in the next few days and I would certainly say that it will be before Christmas. The project will be accompanied by a plan for the rest of the are.”

“Milan and Inter earn €35 million per season from their stadium,” Scaroni said, “while the other top clubs earn more than €100 million.”

“A difference that comes from two reasons,” he continued, “services for spectators that increase turnover, a part of the 65,000 seats that will be reserved for corporate customers who will buy them.”

“So we plan to bring stadium revenues much closer to our competitors,” he added.

“I don’t expect that it will be ready before the 2026 Olympics,” the Rossoneri President stated. “We aim to have the stadium ready for the 2026-27 season, by July or August of 2026.”

He clarified that “The opening of the Olympic Games will be at the Meazza, but will already have the new stadium next to it.”
