Legendary former Inter and Napoli defender Ciro Ferrar feels that Inter’s win over Roma on Saturday was a clear statement of intent in the Scudetto race.

Speaking to Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 54-year-old suggested that the Nerazzurri could be favourites for the Scudetto and showed it with their display against the Rossoneri.

The title race in Serie A this season looks to have the potential to be very tightly fought between the four teams currently at the top of the table.

The Nerazzurri sit second in the table, three points ahead of Atalanta, one point ahead of Napoli, and one behind AC Milan, but their form looks to be good enough that they could build on last season’s Scudetto win with another triumph.

There is still much football to be played in what looks to be one of the most exciting title races in Europe this campaign.

“All four on the same level and have a chance of winning the Scudetto,” Ferrara stated. “I have been saying for a few months that the Scudetto would be won by a coach who has never done it before, it seems to me that this is the trend now. One of Inzaghi, Pioli, Spalletti or Gasperini will triumph.”

He added that “Perhaps Inter showed fewer difficulties but they are right up there because they are the reigning Italian champions and therefore must be taken into consideration above all.”

“They are in good form,” he went on, “the ease with which the Nerazzurri won away at Roma sends a clear message.”
