Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi believes that the form that the Nerazzurri are currently in means that they could be a match for any side they come up against.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 57-year-old spoke highly of the Nerazzurri’s performance levels while also comparing midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu to Lazio’s Luis Alberto.
The Nerazzurri did not get off to a perfect start to the season, with performances largely encouraging but some frailties and lapses seeing the team drop points at times.
Now, however, the team look to have rectified both stylistic and tactical problems as well as their table position, as they have qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds and are only a point behind the top of the Serie A table on the back of some thrilling football.
Bergomi feels that his former side are in truly top form, stating that “At the moment Inter are unplayable. They control matches, they are confident in possession, and they attack with many players.”
“A continuous and exciting style with every player involved,” is how he characterized the Nerazzurri’s football at the moment.
He went on that “Gagliardini’s goal against Spezia and especially the second at the Olimpico give the measure of how much Inter have grown – moving the ball around and around with quality and pace.”
“They are truly a spectacle,” he emphasized. “I reiterate, right now Inter are a team that can beat anyone.”
The former defender highlighted some key individuals at the club, stating that “Brozovic is impressive, he always knows where to be positioned and he interprets both the attacking and defensive sides of the game perfectly.”
“He has personality and awareness,” he went on, “he is the real engine of the team and by now he has become irreplaceable.”
Of summer signing Calhanoglu, Bergomi stated that “Calha is finally proving to be a top player and his performance is on the same level as the best shown by Luis Alberto during Inzaghi’s time at Lazio.”
“And if Correa can consistently show what we saw in Rome then it becomes difficult to find a way to stop this team,” he added.
“But do you know what I like best?” he said of the team, “The wide defenders: Bastoni and Dimarco create an impressive number of goalscoring chances.”
