Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is yet to score in the Champions League this season, though it has not been for lack of trying.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the Argentine has taken more shots in the competition than anyone else, with 23, but has yet to find the back of the net.

Martinez has been an important player for Inter this season, and an important outlet for goals, with his eight in Serie A putting him level with Edin Dzeko as the club’s top scorer in the league.

In the Champions League however, it has been a different story, as the 24-year-old has failed to find the back of the net in any of their first five group stage matches of the season.

Martinez has missed a number of presentable chances and will feel that he has to do better, as these kinds of misses can easily be punished against the highest calibre of opposition.

At the Bernabeu this evening, the striker is set to start against Real Madrid, and he can break his duck in the competition by getting on the scoresheet as the two teams vie for top spot in their group.

Inter will hope that Martinez can find his form and confidence in the Champions League in the Spanish capital, as he is a player they will want to be able to rely on in front of goal.
