Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella will face a fine from the club after receiving a red card during the second half of yesterday evening’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the club will fine the 24-year-old based on their internal disciplinary procedures.

Barella reacted badly to a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge by Real defender Eder Militao that sent him into the advertising hoardings, hitting out at the Brazilian’s calf while on the ground.

Referee Felix Brych was left with little choice but the send Barella off given that the hit out was clearly a straight red card based on the laws of the game.

After the match Inter coach Simone Inzaghi stated that the midfielder recognized that his actions were rash and apologized.

However, the red was still very costly for the Nerazzurri, who will now miss Barella during the round of sixteen of the competition, and he will face a fine from within the club.
