Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries feels that he and his teammates must respond to this evening’s Champions League loss to Real Madrid with a strong rest of the yet.

Speaking to InterTV after the match at the Bernabeu, the Dutchman emphasized the importance of taking the positive aspects of their display and then getting three points against Cagliari on the weekend.

Inter played with a proactive, attacking gameplan against Real and carved out a number of decent scoring chances, but they were unable to find the back of the net even once, as had been the case at the San Siro against the same opposition.

Their task went from difficult to virtually impossible when Nicolo Barella was sent off in the second half, and now the Nerazzurri will have to settle for qualifying for the knockouts second in their group.

However, Dumfries does not want to dwell on the loss but is instead determined to look ahead to the important matches to come.

“I think that especially in the first half we had good chances,” he stated, “we put made life difficult for Real.”

“Unfortunately we weren’t cynical enough in front of goal and then after the red it was even more difficult,” he went on.

“I think we are growing as a team,” Dumfries continued, “obviously tonight we have had to face a defeat but we have to take confidence from this performance.”

“Now we have Cagliari,” the wing-back emphasized, “we are completely focused on that match. We know that we must win the three matches that we have to play before the Christmas break.”
