Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti feels that Inter were a tough side even after watching his team get the better of the Nerazzurri 2-0 at the Bernabeu yesterday evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the Italian tactician acknowledged that the match had not been straightforward by any means for he and his players.

Inter have now lost to the Merengues twice in the Champions Legaue this season, both times failing to get on the scoresheet.

And yet these results fail to tell the whole story, with the Nerazzurri having controlled possession on both occasions and generating a very high number of goalscoring chances throughout.

Ancelotti is aware of this, and was very respectful of the quality shown by his opposition as he gave his reaction to a match that will have been much more satisfying for him in the end than it was for his opposite number Simone Inzaghi.

“I am proud of the game, all of it, even when Inter pushed and controlled the ball,” Ancelotti stated. “We risked little, there was no need to go all out and try to be extraordinary.”

Of the Nerazzurri, he called them “A strong team, difficult to control because they cover the spaces well in attack and they control the ball well.”

“We didn’t want to press them high,” he went on of the Merengues’ gameplan, “a couple of times we tried and they were dangerous. The idea was to wait for them with a low block.”
