Former Inter striker Diego Milito has said that he hopes fellow former Inter star Goran Pandev scores for Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna this weekend, according to a report in the Italian media.

Whilst speaking to Il Secolo XIX, a Genoa based newspaper, Diego Milito discussed his time at Genoa and how that makes him want them to beat local rivals Sampdoria when the teams face off this weekend.

“I often hear from my former teammates including Criscito and Pandev. I cheer for them and I would be happy if Goran Pandev scores, but beyond that I hope in three points for the Grifone.”

Diego Milito and Goran Pandev both played for Inter at the same time and are connected through the Nerazzurri and Genoa.

Diego Milito also passed a comment on the Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo, saying: “I’ve known him for a long time. I don’t like running for any role, these things have to come naturally.

“We never talked about anything in particular and it’s the truth. Let’s let things happen over time. I will always be a Genoa fan.”

Genoa are now being coached by former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko but he has not had the ideal start. The fixture list has not been kind to him though.

Diego Milito explained that he wishes the Ukrainian boss the best whilst he is at the Grifone.

“Shevchenko is a great champion, one of the strongest strikers of those years. As a coach I wish him the best and I hope he starts right here at Genoa.”
