Inter are hoping that UEFA will only ban Nicolo Barella for one Champions League match after he apologised to the referee in person after his red card, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport, Inter are hopeful that the referee during the match against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, Felix Brych, will not push hard for the player to be given a two game ban given his clear remorse after the game.

At the end of the 2-0 defeat, Nicolo Barella was accompanied by a team manager as he went to Felix Brych’s office to formally apologise for the way he lashed out at Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

Nicolo Barella was shown a straight red card for the punch towards the legs of the defender and could be banned for both legs of Inter’s Round of 16 tie in February 2022.
