Inter defender Stefan de Vrij could be sacrificed by Inter in the summer to raise money for younger transfer targets, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, selling Stefan de Vrij in the summer would represent a very attractive capital gain for Inter.

It would also remove his €4.2 million salary off of the books. He is not the only player that the Nerazzurri wish to offload in order to change the complexion of the squad in the future.

Chilean duo Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez are the two highest earners at the club right now and sporting CEO Beppe Marotta is keen to move them on and reinvest their salaries into young Italian players that can be the future of the club.

The pair would require severance pay but it is seen as a price that is worth paying.
