Cagliari boss Walter Mazzarri had not held back when describing how tough a task his team face on Sunday when they travel to San Siro to face Inter, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Whilst speaking to the Live Cagliari show on Radiolina, via FCInternews, the former Inter manager explained that Inter are in incredible form and the team will need some luck as well as to be on the top of their game.

“What can I tell you? Right now the facts are speaking. They are in stratospheric form. Many think there is no match. But I am confident.

“If we go with the pride and organisation shown in the last games we can play it, we also need a bit of luck. These matches are faced with courage. If we go there only to defend we lose before starting. We try to play our game and frighten them.”

Inter have dragged themselves right back into the title fight thanks to an impressive run of victories in Serie A as well as a drop off in form from AC Milan and Napoli in recent weeks.

Cagliari meanwhile are stuck in a relegation fight, meaning they are not expected to have any joy at San Siro in Sunday night.

Walter Mazzarri had a short spell in charge of Inter in 2013/14 which he says he worked hard to achieve: “I sweated everything, I started from C2 and made a long journey. Then I did Reggina, Sampdoria, Napoli and Inter. It’s pride, like starting from the bottom and then getting to the top.

“It was my only exemption, but then my work was re-evaluated. I was pleased that my fifth place was then seen in a different way.”
