Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has revealed what it means to him to face his former team Cagliari, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview on the Inter podcast Kick Off, via FCInternews, the Sardinian midfielder explained the emotions he has every time he lays against Cagliari having spent five years playing for the senior team there and nine years in the youth academy.

“It will be a great emotion because playing against Cagliari always has a strange effect. It’s a very important match for us, a very important match for them. In the last few games they are starting to win the points that they could not win at the beginning of the year, they have found the right balance.”

Despite his feelings of fondness towards Sunday’s opponent, Nicolo Barella is clear about the fact that Inter are fighting to win a second consecutive Serie A title and will have to remain at the top of their game.

“We have to fight for the title. This year all the points are fundamental and you cannot afford to leave points on the road, it will be a difficult match but we want to win.

“We will need the desire to win, we will need the skill that we are expressing in the last few games and then we will have to be careful because Cagliari have quality players, especially in front, who score many goals.

“We should try to keep them in their half of the field to keep them from starting again and to win the game by finding as many goals as possible.”

Nicolo Barella will feel he must make amends at San Siro on Sunday because he was shown a straight red card in the Champions League against Real Madrid during the week after he lashed out at Eder Militao who’s challenge forced him into the advertising hoarding.
