Former Empoli and Brescia coach Luigi Cagni believes that the lack of too many major injuries in Inter’s squad partly accounts for why they have been able to catch up at the top of the Serie A table.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, the 71-year-old explained his view that the Nerazzurri have been fortunate not to have to deal with the absences from their squad that AC Milan and Napoli have.

The Nerazzurri have found the best form of their season right as their main rivals at the top of the table have begun to drop a few points, meaning that they have quickly closed the gap which was at one point seven points from the league leaders.

Both the Partenopei and the Rossoneri have had a number of players out for the past several weeks, which could partly account for why their performances have not always been at the level that they were in the first couple months of the season.

Cagni believes this to be the case, stating that “A while ago I said that Inter would have problems catching up to the two teams at the top, but they have managed to now partly because they have never had major injuries.”

“The strongest squads are those of Napoli and Inter,” he added. “Milan hves a lot of young players so they can be inconsistent.”
