Inter captain Samir Handanovic feels that he and his teammates proved what they can do to both themselves and their rivals with their emphatic 4-0 win over Cagliari earlier this evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Slovenian commended the entire team for a dominant performance to go top of the Serie A table for the first time this season.

The Nerazzurri went in to the match at the San Siro as clear favourites given the respective form of themselves and their opponents, but they also knew that the Rossoblu have quality despite their place in the table.

In the end, however, Inter made taking three points from the clash look as straightforward as it could in a top flight match.

Handanovic is pleased that he and his teammates were able to get such a positive result with such an eye-catching performance, and hopes that they can continue on like this.

“It is important to always win regardless of what the other teams do,” he said of the result in the context of dropped points by AC Milan and Napoli this weekend.

“Today, however, we were aware of the other results and we wanted to send a signal to both the other sides and to ourselves.”

“We are fit and happy,” the captain stated. “The team plays very well, we are taking what we deserve and what we work to achieve.”

“This Inter plays the best football of all those that I’ve seen,” he added.

And of where the team can still improve, he stated that “As soon as you asked me, I immediately thought of Madrid, we have played against them multiple times, we have seemed as though we could win and yet we have always lost.”

“This is what we lack, that extra something that Real had and we didn’t. That’s why we lost. It’s the next step,” he reflected.

And of the Champions League round of sixteen draw the Slovenian stated that “Whichever team we get we will play without fear, as Inter. As we have been doing in the past few matches.”
