Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is aiming to be top of the Serie A table at Christmas after city rivals AC Milan’s slip-up against Udinese.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are aiming to exploit their excellent home form and strong attack to close out 2022 in dominant fashion.

The Rossoneri went into this weekend a point ahead of Inter at the top of the table, but they were only able to salvage a draw late on during a frustrating trip to Friuli.

The Nerazzurri can jump to two points ahead of their city rivals, while the likes of Atalanta and Napoli will also see Milan dropping points as an opportunity to exploit in the close Scudetto race.

For Inter, winning their three remaining Serie A matches of the year would guarantee finishing as “winter champions” after the first complete round of fixtures.

One positive sign for the Nerazzurri is the fact that two of their remaining three games are at home, this evening against Cagliari and then against Torino just before Christmas.

The Nerazzurri have had the strongest home form of any team in Serie A in 2021, winning seventeen out of the nineteen matches played at the Giuseppe Meazza since January.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri’s strong attack this campaign could be enough to put away their three remaining opponents to take maximum points.

Inter have found the back of the net 39 times this season, the highest goal tally in Serie A.

Additionally, when combined with the 55 goals scored by the team during the second half of last season under Antonio Conte, Inter have scored a total of 94 in 2021, not far off from the club record of 99 in a calendar year.

With these factors in mind, Inzaghi and his team will feel confident in setting the goal for themselves of sitting at the top of the Serie A table by Christmas.
