Cagliari head coach Walter Mazzarri feels that his side lost 4-0 to Inter yesterday partly because they were not good enough but also conceded that the Nerazzurri played at a very high level.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the coach praised Inter’s form as “stratospheric” on a night when his team looked completely unable to cope with the performance that the now-league leaders produced.

Inter went into the match knowing that while the Rossoblu were beatable opposition, their place in the relegation zone of the table doesn’t fully do justice to the level of their squad and their performances over the season.

However, the Nerazzurri had been in excellent form in the league going into the match, and they proved themselves yet again by showing a very clear gap in class against their opponents.

The 4-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of the run of play as the Nerazzurri dominated possession and created numerous chances, even missing a penalty, hitting the frame of the goal, and forcing great saves out of Rossoblu keeper Alessio Cragno.

Mazzarri reflected “Until their first goal we were at least compact. I didn’t like almost anything I saw today, but it must be said that Inter are in a stratospheric form.”

“I cannot accept that they were absolutely crazy trying to recover the ball, and we hardly even fouled them throughout the match trying to compete.”
