Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that his team can be confident going into any Champions League matchup following their emphatic win over Cagliari.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 27-year-old emphasized that he and his teammates are in a very confident and ready for any opponent who they come up against.

The Nerazzurri are now top of the Serie A table for the first time this season, having capitalized on dropped points by AC Milan and Napoli to reach the summit.

The nature of their emphatic win over the Rossoblu shows that they can get the job done in Serie A, but also that this team has the quality and confidence to threaten anyone.

The Champions League knockouts will not be easy no matter which opponents the Nerazzurri get drawn against, but the key to any matchup will be taking the right confidence from big wins like the one this evening.

On the suggestion that he can score like a striker, Calhanoglu stated that “The strikers are Lautaro and Dzeko. I only have to assist but I’m happy to have scored too.”

“Today we played very well defensively as well,” he added. “In my opinion, even before the derby against Milan we played well, we have just continued to work.”

“I do my work on the training pitch, the staff have helped me grow and I feel very happy in this midfield role,” he explained.

“On the pitch we are in the middle of a very good spell,” he went on, “as long as we play like this the results will come naturally in the end.”

“I feel very comfortable in this role,” the Turk stated. “I give a lot to the team, I get the ball into space. I like to always have the ball in my feet, because I can be most dangerous this way.”

And of potential opponents in the Champions League round of sixteen in tomorrow’s draw he stated that “All the teams are strong, but we are too and we will play without fear against whoever we get.”
