Inter are offering captain Samir Handanovic an extension on his contract, but at reduced wages and only if he is willing to stay on as second-choice to Andre Onana.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 37-year-old is considering the offer but that his agent is also looking for other possibilities as he still wants to have a starting role at a club.

Handanovic will have been the first-choice keeper at Inter for ten seasons at the end of the current campaign, having joined from Udinese in the summer of 2012.

The Slovenian turned 37 in the summer and the club are actively looking into the process of replacing him in the long-term, with Ajax’s Andre Onana their preferred option and close to an agreement to sign on a free transfer next summer.

Handanovic’s current deal expires at the end of June 2022, but the club are offering him an extension to stay on next season.

However, the new deal that the Nerazzurri are offering would see him earn half of what he currently does, and the club have made clear that he would be the deputy to Onana.

Handanovic still feels that he can be the starting keeper at a club, and his agent Fali Ramadani is looking into other possibilities for him beyond next summer, though he has not rejected the Nerazzurri’s offer.
