Italian journalist Pierluigi Pardo feels that Denzel Dumfries is beginning to hit top form in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 win over Cagliari yesterday, Pardo highlighted the Dutchman’s recent contributions filling in for Matteo Darmian and especially his pace.

Dumfries did not immediately settle in at Inter after his move from PSV during the summer, showing flashes of his talent but not always looking totally comfortable or up to speed.

Darmian has been the first-choice right wing-back for much of the season, but with the 31-year-old having been out with a thigh injury for a couple weeks Simone Inzaghi has not hesitated to turn to Dumfries.

The 25-year-old has repaid the manager’s faith with a string of very effective performances in which he has balanced a good understanding of his role in the side with some very impressive moments where he has used his pace to break opponents down.

“His last few games have been extraordinary,” Pardo stated. “We’re starting to see the incredible pace that is his trademark.”

“The penalty given away against Juventus may have had a psychological impact, but in the last 3-4 weeks I’ve sen a player who may not be Hakimi but who  nevertheless has serious quality.”
