Inter have found set pieces to be a very favourable route to goal this season, having gotten a significant portion of their goal tally in Serie A from dead balls.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who note that thirteen of the Nerazzurri’s forty goals come from penalties, free kicks, and corners, and also highlight the importance of main set piece taker Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Nerazzurri have found the back of the net six times from the penalty spot even in spite of missing several spot kicks, and they have scored the same number of times from corners.

A well-taken goal directly from a free kick by Federico Dimarco against Sassuolo rounds out the Nerazzurri’s portfolio of set piece goals.

These goals have shown just how well-constructed the Nerazzurri are to exploit their opportunities from dead balls, of which there are many given the number of fouls and corners that the team wins.

Key to this success has been the arrival of expert set piece taker Calhanoglu, whose deliveries have helped his aerially dominant teammates find the back of the net on multiple occasions already with Lautaro Martinez’s opener against Cagliari one more example.

Moreover, the Turk even scored directly from a corner with an Olimpico at the Olimpico against Roma.

Inter have looked like the free-scoring team in Serie A this season, and they owe part of this to the fact that they have been so ruthless from set pieces.
