Inter will learn of their Champions League round of sixteen opponent later today in a second draw after the results of the initial draw were voided due to improper procedure having been followed.

This is confirmed in a tweet by UEFA’s official account, which states that the original draw followed improper procedure due to a technical malfunction and that the redraw will be held at 15:00 CET.

The Nerazzurri drew Dutch champions Ajax in the original draw held at 12:00 CET this morning, and could still face the same opposition yet, but they will have to wait until the new draw to learn who they will come up against.

The wrong balls were included in the pot for the original draw, with not all of the eligible teams having been included in the pot of potential opponents for Spanish side Atletico Madrid, namely Manchester United were absent.

The Spanish side drew German champions Bayern Munich, and they appealed to UEFA to have the results of the draw declared void based on the improper procedure having been followed.

UEFA accepted Atletico’s appeal and so a new draw will take place later today in order to ensure that all of the knockout ties are decided based on proper procedure.

It will once again be the case that Inter face a team who qualified top of their Champions League group, with the Nerazzurri having qualified second in their own group behind Real Madrid.
