Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has reached the summit of the Serie A table for the first time in his career after the Nerazzurri picked up three points with an emphatic win over Cagliari yesterday.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who highlight that the 45-year-old can claim for the first time to be standing alone at the top of the table following the 4-0 win.

Inzaghi has already carved out a strong reputation for himself with his years of work at Lazio, but the Scudetto eluded him during his time there.

The Biancocelesti had been top of the table briefly during the the 2019-20 season at points, but always with the caveat that eventual champions Juventus had a game in hand on them which they would go on to win.

At Inter, the coach similarly impressed from the off, but so far this season they have always had rivals who they had to look up at in the table, in the form of AC Milan and Napoli in particularly.

This weekend, however, the Partenopei lost further ground on the Nerazzurri with a 1-0 loss to Empoli, and, more importantly, league leaders Milan could only salvage a 1-1 draw with Udinese in Friuli.

Inter knew going into their match against Cagliari that the Rossoneri’s dropped points gave them the opportunity to go top of the table, and they made sure to exploit it.

Simone Inzaghi’s men are now top of the table after overtaking their city rivals, and they could well be very difficult to dislodge.
