Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has clarified that he does not yet have an agreement to have Inter in the summer but that it could be on the cards.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Sport, the Cameroonian explained that he has yet to decide on his future though he didn’t rule out a Nerazzurri move amid wide reports that an agreement is close.

Onana’s current deal with Ajax is set to expire at the end of June 2022, and the 25-year-old is virtually certain to leave, with negotiations having broken down with the Dutch champions over a possible extension and the player having announced that he plans to leave.

The keeper is reported to be Inter’s priority option to arrive as the long-term option to replace Samir Handanovic on a long-term basis.

The Cameroonian does not feel that he is certain to make the switch to the Nerazzurri on a free transfer next summer by any means, though he feels that it can certainly happen.

On returning from the doping ban that kept him out of football for twelve months, Onana stated “Finally. They were very difficult months, but in the end we got through it. I’m very happy to be back playing and showing my skills.”

He further reflected that while it’s been a difficult time in his career, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

“It’s an incredible feeling,” he said of making his return. “Cameroon supported me from the first minute for what I had done for my country. And Ajax were the same. I can only thank the people who supported me.”

Of leaving Ajax, he stated that “When you open a door, sooner or later you must end up closing it. The time has come to open another. We made history history. This is the end and it is time to start on a new path.”

“We have offers from different teams, but we haven’t chosen any yet,” he said of his future. “You never know what can happen in this position, because in football there are no certainties.”

“Let’s wait to see which project we like best, it is important to evaluate the sporting aspect,” he added.

The Cameroonian gave the view that “Barca continues to be one of the top clubs in the world. I want to play every week and that’s what’s important to me in sport.”

“I have worked hard for years to play at a certain level,” he stated of his desire to play Champions League football.

On the strong links with a summer move to Inter he stated that “They talk about many other rumours: people also talk about Arsenal, Barca. At the moment there is nothing.”

“I continue to be in contact with Barca,” he continued. “I have had an excellent good relationship since I left. Barca is my home and the contacts have always been continuing.”

He added that returning to Barcelona would be his first choice, clarifying that “It’s my home and where I grew up. If it can be Barca, it’s Barca.”

But he went on that “It is difficult to play at such a big club. Ter Stegen is doing very well, he is still young and therefore it will be more difficult to find a role in the team.”

“I know that one day I will end up playing at the Camp Nou, but I don’t know if for or against Barca,” he went on.

Onana concluded that “There is no certainty in football. I’m here today and I don’t know about tomorrow. It may be like that, but it may not be. Only God knows.”
