Legendary former Inter, Roma, and Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano believes that Inter fans are under no illusions about the difficulty of facing Liverpool in the Champions League.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the 41-year-old gave the view that Nerazzurri supporters will not consider their team to be favourites in their round of sixteen tie.

The Nerazzurri already believed that they were getting a tough matchup in the first round of the knockouts when they drew Dutch champions Ajax.

However, the draw had to be voided and re-done after an appeal by Atletico Madrid over improper procedure being followed thanks to software issues, and Inter found that things got even worse for them.

Liverpool are one of the form sides in England and on the continent, having collected six wins out of six from a group containing AC Milan, Porto, and Atletico Madrid.

Inter are themselves in good form and will believe that the tie is winnable, but Cassano feels that the fans are not getting their hopes up.

“Do any Inter fans seriously believe they’re the favourites?” he said of the tie. “Find me one who says that.”

The former striker also spoke about Nerazzurri forward Alexis Sanchez, stating that “Yesterday Inzaghi said that he gives him a tough decision every training session, he is like a starter.”

“I cannot imagine that he is considered a bench player, this is madness,” he went on of the Chilean.

Cassano also spoke of the Nerazzurri’s win over Cagaliari on Sunday, stating that “Inter are playing Champagne football, they enjoy themselves, but Cagliari are the team who I’m most disappointed by in Serie A.”

“Inter are in form,” he went on, “they are playing better than everyone, the club have done a very good job – look at Calhanoglu for example: he has been struggling for years at Milan, at Inter in six months he is playing like a god.”

“The Turk is not Eriksen, but he is replacing him very well,” he added. “Dumfries may not be Hakimi, but he’s improving from game to game.”
