Former Inter CEO Ernesto Pellegrini prefers the way that Simone Inzaghi has conducted himself as Nerazzurri coach than the way that Antonio Conte had.

Speaking to Italian podcast Radio Nerazzurra, as reported by FCInterNews, Pellegrini gave his thoughts on the new coach and praised him for his courtesy in his role at the club.

Conte’s work on the pitch at Inter spoke for itself, with the former Juventus, Italy, and Chelsea boss delivering the first Scudetto that the club had won in eleven years.

However, as has been the case at other clubs for whom he has worked, the Italian tactician was not afraid to make his views known when he disagreed with some aspect of the way the club was being run.

In the end, the disagreements could not be overcome and so Conte departed at the beginning of the summer, with former Lazio coach Inzaghi taking his place, and Pellegrini is a fan of the latter.

Pellegrini began by stating that he would support building a new stadium but still keeping the San Siro standing rather than demolishing the existing structure to make room for a new one.

“How many years will it take to tear it down?” he said. “The removal of all the rubble will be a nightmare for those who live in the area.”

“Then we have to consider the loss of rent for the Municipality,” he added. “I know that keeping San Siro standing is good business. If Inter and Milan want to build a new stadium nearby, they can do so, why not?”

The former CEO spoke about the time the club almost signed Porto striker Rabah Madjer but didn’t do so because of fitness issues.

“I had him over at my house before the medicals, he impressed me in terms of his personality,” he explained of the Algerian. “He would have done very well at Inter, but it turned out that he had fitness problems.”

He also spoke about the departure of Ramon Diaz, stating that “Matthaus and Brehme had proposed Klinsmann to me, telling me not to let him escape.”

“It all happened in December, when Diaz had not yet hit great form, so much so that Trapattoni preferred Morello to him,” he added.

“That’s why I bought the German,” he explained of Klinsmann, “then I asked for the exemption to the three foreign players rule but the head of the FA said no to me.”

“I would make the purchase of Rummenigge again,” he reflected, “a man of incredible elegance and courtesy, as well as the greatest centre forward in the world at the time.”

“One thing I would not do again is the sacking of Bagnoli,” he went on, “He did not deserve it, but unfortunately I made a bad decision due to the way things were going at the time.”

Between Conte and Inzaghi Pellegrini stated that “I prefer Inzaghi, who is doing very well, he is soft-spoken, someone who does not take shots at the club – he is satisfied with the players he has available.”

“He has built a wonderful Inter,” the former executive added, “they play well and score many goals. Everyone in the team is happy and positive because the players are playing so well.”

On his favourite players at the club right now Pellegrini stated that “I would rather not mention names, they are all excellent players.”

“There is no one at the level of Rummenigge, but if I must mention one I’d say Barella because he looks a bit like Matthaus but with less power,” he went on.

He closed by stating that “I had predicted 7-8 months ago that Inter would win the Scudetto.”
