Former Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo believes that Inter deserve to be where they are at the summit of the Serie A table.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 36-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri have earned their place at the top of the table while he also emphasized the role that injuries have played in their ascent.

Inter started the season in decent form, but they fell behind city rivals AC Milan and Napoli who began the campaign at a breathless pace and found themselves seven points ahead at the top.

The Nerazzurri got many of their hardest matches out of the way during the first portion of the campaign, and once they beat Napoli in their first match back from the November international break they had momentum on their side.

While the Partenopei and the Rossoneri faced tough matches and dealt with key injuries throughout their squads, Inter have found a winning groove while rotating the team just as much as need be.

Parolo gave the view that “Inzaghi’s team has made good on the advantage that the calendar has given them, top spot is deserved but it must be said that they have had fewer key injuries than the other big teams.”

He also named Atalanta as the Nerazzurri’s main Scudetto rivals, stating that “They’re coming up strong, they’ve started looking like Atalanta again and they might be who Inzaghi fears most.”
