Former Inter midfielder Borja Valero believes that the Nerazzurri showed that they are ready to win the Scudetto again when they beat Cagliari 4-0 on Sunday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the Spaniard praised the Nerazzurri’s performance in the emphatic win while he also gave the view that Lautaro Martinez only needs to show a truly outstanding full season to be considered a top striker.

Inter have been in excellent form since the return from the international break, and they made it five wins from five with their win over the Rossoblu at the San Siro.

Aside from taking three important points away from the match to go top of the Serie A table for the first time this season, the nature of the performance was very encouraging.

Inter controlled possession and created more than enough chances over ninety minutes to be good value for the lopsided scoreline.

Valero stated that “All the numbers are in favour of Inter in the league. The message they sent against Cagliari is an incredible one: they did not underestimate their opponent, they scored immediately and enjoyed themselves.”

He went on that “They are absolutely in great form.”

Of Martinez’s form he stated that “Lautaro just needs to show that he can have a season where he scores twenty goals to put himself among the top strikers in Europe.”

“Inter’s strength lies in their squad,” he added, “no matter who is called upon plays well and this is very positive for Inzaghi.”
