Inter have been in their best form of the season so far over the past few weeks, and at the heart of it has been midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note how the Turk’s upswing in form on an individual level has correlated with the Nerazzurri’s fortunes as a team.

Calhanoglu arrived at Inter with big expectations on his shoulders, coming in on a free transfer from city rivals AC Milan to take the place of the stricken Christian Eriksen.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a very encouraging debut against Genoa, but in the matches following he came in for criticism for his limited impact on games as he looked to be some way from fully tactically integrating in his new surroundings.

In the derby against his former side the Rossoneri Calhanoglu put in one of his best displays of the season, and he hasn’t looked back since returning from the international break.

The Turkish midfielder was named as the Serie A player of the month for November for his influential displays against the Rossoneri and against Napoli as well as his consistent contributions through his club’s winning run.

Calhanoglu has not slowed down in December, either, working hard on both sides of the ball and looking virtually more incisive by the match with his passing.

As the 27-year-old has really started to settle in, he has become a key cog in a Nerazzurri machine who are the form team in Italy, and there is no coincidence here.
