Inter have been in good form this season, but they are still some way behind their Champions League round of sixteen opponents Liverpool in terms of quality.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight the gap between the Nerazzurri and the Reds.

The Gazzetta note that the total value of the Nerazzurri’s squad is €526 million according to Transfermarkt, whilst the Reds can boast a squad worth €866 million.

Moreover, in spite of losing key players in the summer in the form of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi for massive fees, the Nerazzurri were hardly able to spend and their most effective signing has been free transfer Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Gazzetta highlights that Inter still have two months to prepare for their match with Liverpool, and will have already had head-to-head matches against all their top four rivals by the time they play the first leg against the Premier League side.

The Nerazzurri have the chance to play themselves into form and approach the round of sixteen tie at their absolute best, but against a team of Liverpool’s stature and financial power the Gazzetta argue that it will still be a mighty challenge.
