Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti believes that the botched UEFA Champions League draw that took place yesterday did not reflect very well on the orgnization.

Speaking to the press outside the Charity Dinner Gala of his Pupi Foundation, as reported by FCInterNews, the Argentine spoke about the fact that a re-draw was necessary and also gave his thoughts on getting Liverpool as a round of sixteen opponent.

Inter believed that they had drawn Ajax in the round of sixteen after the first Champions League draw, but the outcome of the draw was soon called into question.

There had been issues with the software which indicated which teams were to be eligible to play against one another, and Atletico Madrid appealed to hold a re-draw after they got a difficult opponent in the form of Bayern Munich.

A few hours later the re-draw was held with closer monitoring of the draw and Inter learned that they would instead be facing Liverpool.

“What happened was very unfortunate,” Zanetti stated, “but beyond this we know that we will be facing a top team, we know how good Liverpool are.”

“But Inter is a glorious club with a lot of history,” he went on. “We will have time to be able to prepare for this challenge in the best possible way.”

He concluded that “I think we are up to the task of facing a team in this competition because the Champions League is all about the details.”
