Inter-linked Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana wants to move forward in his career when he leaves the Dutch champions this summer, though he is not yet settled on a destination.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Marca, the 25-year-old gave his thoughts ahead of a summer in which he will leave his current club, and explained that the Nerazzurri are only one of several clubs interested in signing him.

Onana will be available on a free transfer next summer as his contract expires at the end of June 2022 and he has publicly stated that he will not renew with Ajax.

The Cameroonian is a priority target for the Nerazzurri as a long-term replacement for Samir Handanovic, and the club have been widely reported to be in advanced talks with the player for some time.

However, a deal is not over the line, and the player still feels that his future is not settled amid interest from a number of European clubs.

“I’ve had many conversations,” he stated, “I’ve been approached by Barcelona, Inter, Arsenal, Lyon, Nice, Monaco, while I was at home during my doping ban.”

He went on that “I don’t know, it’s certain that we haven’t reached an agreement with Ajax and I’m grateful to the club for the opportunity it has given me.”

“After seven years I think it is time to take the next step, to go somewhere else,” he went on.

“Ajax always gives opportunities to young players and there are many goalkeepers in the academy waiting for this opportunity,” he added.

But he stressed that “I feel that I must leave. Where, I don’t yet know but I need something new to be one of the top goalkeepers in the world.”
